External description

Bordered tinder fungus (Fomitopsis pinicola) – well known mushroom, refers to saprophytes. Characterized by perennial fruiting bodies that grow sideways, sessile. In young copies have a rounded or hemispherical shape. With time the shape of the mushrooms of this species is changing. It may be hoofed, and pillow-shaped. The mushroom is characterized by a complete absence of legs. If on the street is wet, then on the surface of the fruit a body of bordered tinder funnel drops of liquid appear. Hat characterized by average sizes, in diameter it can reach up to 30 cm (in old mushrooms). The height of the hat is up to 10 cm. On it surfaces are clearly visible concentric areas. The pulp of the mushroom is dense, elastic, resembles in structure traffic jam. It can sometimes be woody. When cracked, it becomes flaky. Light brown or light beige (in mature fruit tel – chestnut). Gymenophore – tubular type, cream or beige colour. It darkens under mechanical stress, becoming gray or dark brown. Spore Powder – White, Yellow, or cream. The spores themselves are small and colorless. It is characterized by an ellipsoidal or ovoid form.

Fringed tinder bears are classified as saprophytes, provokes development brown rot. It occurs in many regions, but most often – on territories of Europe and Russia. Grow on deadwood, dry coniferous and deciduous trees, stumps. If a living tree is weakened, then the mushroom can hit him. Fruit bodies of bordered polypore usually begin to grow below the tree trunk.

Edible. Used to create flavored condiments with taste of mushrooms. It is a raw material for homeopathic medicines. Successfully used in Chinese traditional medicine.
