Ischnoderma resinosum

Ischnoderm resinous is a type of mushroom that belongs to the large family of Fomitopsis.

Distributed everywhere (North America, Asia, Europe), but not so often. In Russia, it can be seen both in deciduous forests and in conifers, in taiga regions.

Ischnoderm resinous – saprotroph. Likes to grow on dead wood, dry wood, stumps, especially preferring pine and spruce. Causes white rot. Annual.

Season: early August to late October.

Fruiting bodies of resinous ischnoderm are solitary, can also be collected in groups. The shape is round, seated, the base is descending.

The size of the fruit bodies is up to about 20 centimeters, the thickness of the caps is up to 3-4 centimeters. Coloring – bronze, brown, red-brown, velvety to the touch. In mature mushrooms, the surface of the body is smooth, with black zones. The edge of the caps is light, whitish, and can be bent by a wave.

During the period of active growth, resinous ischnoderm secretes drops of brown or reddish liquid.

The hymenophore, like many species of this family, is tubular, and its color depends on age. In young mushrooms, the color of the hymenophore is creamy, and with age it begins to darken and becomes brown.

The pores are rounded, may be slightly angular. Elliptical spores, smooth, colorless.

The pulp is juicy (in young mushrooms), white, then it becomes fibrous, and the color changes to light brown.

The taste is neutral, the smell is aniseed or vanilla.

The fabric is at first whitish, soft, juicy, then woody, light brown, with a slight aniseed scent (some authors characterize the scent as vanilla).

Ischnoderm resinous causes fir stem rot. Rot is usually located in the butt, no higher than 1.5-2.5 meters in height. The rot is very active, the rot spreads quickly, which most often leads to windfall.

The mushroom is inedible.
