Telephone carnation

Clove telephon (Thelephora caryophyllea)

It has a cap, 1 to 5 cm wide, shaped like a small vase, consisting of several concentric discs overlapping each other. The outer edges are smoothed. The carnation telephora has a smooth surface, on which divergent veins are visible, sometimes there may be uneven rough areas. The color of the cap can be of all shades of brown or dark purple, when it dries, the color fade quickly, the mushroom brightens, and the color becomes uneven (zoned). The edges are lobed or unevenly torn.

The leg can be completely absent or very short, it can be both eccentric and central, the color coincides with the cap.

The mushroom has a fine deep brown flesh, no pronounced taste and smell. The spores are rather long, lobed or angular ellipses.

Telefora clove grows in groups or singly, common in coniferous forests. The growing season lasts from mid-July to autumn.

The mushroom is classified as inedible.

thelephora caryophyllea

Compared to the terrestrial telephor, this mushroom is not so widespread, it is found in the Akmola and Almaty regions. Also in other regions, it is often found in coniferous forests.

This species can have a large number of different forms and variations, which are often called differently, but it is quite difficult to confuse it with other species found in a given territory if you understand the range of all variations. Thelephora terrestris has a similar head shape, but thicker and coarser in texture.
